Clive Davies leads the Safer Choice Program in the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics. He is committed to advancing EPA’s chemical safety mission, and is proud to work with a talented, innovative, and dedicated staff of environmental professionals.
Clive built Safer Choice, the Agency’s program to distinguish and label safer products, such as cleaners and detergents. Safer Choice-labeled products – more than 2,000 branded cleaners, detergents, and other classes of products – can be found in retailers and distributers across the country. The program also developed and maintains the Safer Chemical Ingredients List (SCIL), which includes hundreds of high-functioning chemical ingredients that meet rigorous health and environment criteria. These ingredients can be used to manufacture Safer Choice-labeled products, and are being used to process or manufacture safer products around the world.
Clive also began the DfE Alternatives Assessment Program to inform industry decision making in selecting alternatives to hundreds of millions of pounds of high-priority chemicals. He convened multi-stakeholder partnerships that guided the transition for chemicals that included high-volume flame retardants, and BPA in thermal paper.
Clive has worked in EPA’s Office of Water and in the Office of Air and Radiation. Clive led the first Survey of Drinking Water Infrastructure Needs, which Congress used to allocate up to $1billion per year in infrastructure funding.

Jessica graduated from Duke University with a BS in Biology; she then went on to gain a MS in Microbiology from the University of Florida. Following this she spent 7 years in education and science program development. Jessica has experience in working in cosmetic testing and tissue R&D, and prior to joining Perfectus Biomed in 2021, she spent 3 years working in developing and managing customized and regulatory testing for medical devices and biologics. In her current role as a Senior Scientist- Commercial Manager, Jessica works closely with clients from a number of industries, including biocides and disinfectants. Supporting R&D, product development, product manufacturing, and post market claims by providing exceptional microbiological testing services.
Jennifer Sass is a Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council (since 2001) and part-time faculty at George Washington University Milken School of Public Health (since 2008). She served on the NIEHS National Toxicology Program Board of Scientific Counselors (2016-2020), the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology working group to review the National Nanotechnology Initiative (2010), and numerous federal advisory committees. She was nominated by President Biden to the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (2021). She has published over 50 articles on topics include environmental health and U.S. federal chemical policy issues. She holds BSc, MSc, and PhD (1998) degrees from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and a Post-Doctoral Certificate (2000) from the University of Maryland, College of Medicine, Program in Human Health and the Environment.
Mary Ellen Perkin is the manager of Consumer and Cleaning Products within the Products Division at Environment and Climate Change. Mary Ellen joined the department in 1996 and holds a degree in Chemical Engineering.
Mary Ellen’s team is team responsible for the administration and development of regulatory controls for substances used in the cleaning products, dry cleaning, cosmetics, and adhesives industries. Her team works on a number of files under Canada’s Chemical Management Plan.
Butch has been working at Nouryon for over 30 years, and is currently the Technical Manager for the Home and Personal Care Business. Butch has a PhD in Organic Synthesis from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and has developed a varied career in Research and Development, Process Development, Applications, Technical Service and Sales. Butch’s current focus is to provide high performing, sustainable formulation solutions to the I&I and Home Care markets.
Esther Lansdaal has joined Corbion in March 2007 and serves as a Senior Biocide Application Specialist in non-food applications.
With 13 years expertise in the market of Home & Personal Care and Biocides Esther is a strong contributor to new technology development.
Esther holds a MSc degree in Applied Life Sciences of HAN University in Nijmegen and a BSc degree in Histopathology of Avans Hogeschool Breda.
Doug Gatlin is CEO of Green Seal, a global nonprofit organization and leading ecolabel dedicated to transforming the economy for a healthier, greener world.
A nationally recognized expert in the design, development and deployment of voluntary market transformation programs, Doug formerly held senior leadership positions with both the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC's) LEED Program and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR Program. During his tenure at USGBC, he led the development of standards for existing buildings, schools, and neighborhoods; and later her ran building certification and personnel credentialing through USGBC’s sister organization, GBCI. Doug is experienced in ANSI/ISO standards development, conformity assessment and personnel certification requirements.
Doug holds a B.S. in Political Science from Duke University and an M.S. in Energy and Environmental Policy from Georgetown University.

She is currently the Vice President of Business Development for Market Actives, the exclusive US distributor of Bitrex® Safety Technology, providing technical, sales, marketing and regulatory support to all US customers. She is responsible for the development of core Bitrex brand assets and management of high-value client relationships. She has over 11 years of experience with Market Actives. She assists clients with product development, certification, marketing, and regulatory affairs.
Kristin is earned the designation Certified Product Safety Professional (CPSP) in 2019 as a member of the Inaugural class of this new professional designation.
She is an active participant in various industry organizations and work groups, including ASTM F-1571 Subcommittee on Liquid Laundry Packets, International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO), Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP), National Poison Prevention Week Council and The American Cleaning Institute (ACI). With ACI, she is active on ACI’s Consumer Laundry Safety Campaign Work Group, Reputation Management Work Group and is the Chair of the Future Leaders Board.
Prior to joining Market Actives, she worked as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) in emergency veterinary medicine. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Equine Science with a Pre-Vet focus from Colorado State University and an MBA and Graduate Certificate of Entrepreneurship from Keller Graduate School of Management.
Scott Jaynes is an Research and Technology Manager at Croda, Inc. in Edison, New Jersey, where he is responsible for new product development and technical service for household and I&I cleaning markets in North America. Prior to joining Croda, Scott held R&D positions at BASF, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, and Unilever. He received a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Dartmouth College.

Melissa Hockstad joined the American Cleaning Institute as the President & CEO in January 2017. She is responsible for the overall leadership of ACI including advocacy, science and research, communications, consumer education, sustainability, financial oversight and member engagement.
Prior to joining ACI she served as Vice President, Petrochemicals at the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM). In this capacity, she was responsible for managing AFPM’s petrochemical activities including oversight of various petrochemical committees, organization of the International Petrochemical Conference, and providing support for addressing legislative, regulatory and communications issues impacting the petrochemicals membership.
She previously held positions at the Plastics Industry Association where she was the Vice President – Science, Technology and Regulatory Affairs, the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) where she served as Performance Improvement Director as well as at Basell Polyolefins (now LyondellBasell) where she was a Senior Engineer.
Melissa received a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Virginia.
Nadia Capuzzo joined Arxada in 2015 and current is the Marketing Manager Homecare. She has experience in consumer market for 18 years with chemical solutions.
Nadia is responsible to build insights and launch solutions with claims that are relevant to consumer market related to Public Health. Topic will be focused on the antimicrobial solutions that aid protection of public health by disrupting transmission of pathogens aligned with consumers concerns regarding sustainability

Arianna is a Global Market Segment Leader at IFF Health & Biosciences in Wilmington, DE. In her current role, she leads innovation and new product development projects within the Home and Personal Care Business. Previously, she was a Commercial Leader in IFF’s Health business where she led the Women’s Health platform and new product development projects with probiotics.
In addition to Arianna’s role at IFF, she is the global co-leader of NextGen, IFF’s employee resource group for early career professionals in the first 12 years of their first career.
Within ACI, she is a member of the Future Leaders Program as well as Microbial-Based Cleaning Product Task Force.
She holds a MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Indiana University.
