With growing scrutiny on traditional disinfectants, what do you see as the biggest challenges and opportunities in transitioning the cleaning industry toward greener alternatives like lactic acid solutions?

The home care industry is changing fast as consumers wake up to the possibilities of cleaning products that are safer for people and take less toll on the planet. The challenge is to develop products with similar disinfection or preservation properties, whilst being better for nature. This is where our portfolio of natural ingredients comes in.

Your presentation highlights a breakthrough in enhancing lactic acid’s effectiveness as a preservative at higher pH levels. How does this expand its practical applications for sustainable preservation in cleaning products?

The limitation with organic acids is their activity spectrum, only active in acidic formulations. With our latest development we can enhance the efficacy of PURAC® Sanilac lactic acid to more neutral pH, opening a wide new range of applications which are normally only formulated around neutral pH, such as milder surface cleaners and laundry detergents.

About Corbion & the Market:

How is Corbion working with cleaning product manufacturers to help them meet both increasing consumer demand for sustainability and stringent regulatory requirements?

Corbion is always looking for ways to replace fossil and hazardous chemicals in home care applications by biobased and safe alternatives, thereby showcasing sustained or even improved performance. Increasingly, we see that home care customers want to leave a positive legacy on the world, and we are helping them to achieve it with our biochemical ingredients.

What market trends are you seeing in terms of the adoption of bio-based ingredients like lactic acid in the European cleaning products sector, and how do you see this evolving?

We see products changing over time. For instance, where in the past there were many alkaline cleaners, those are now also available in acidic pH. Moreover, large-impact events like Covid and bird flu outbreaks drive demand for efficacious disinfection cleaners. Consumers are getting more educated and search for more sustainable disinfection alternatives where we play a role with our PURAC® Sanilac.

Why Attend the Conference:

Having attended Cleaning Products Europe before, what do you find most valuable about the event, and what are you looking forward to this year in Prague?

It is not too large, but still enough people to network and make new connections. Companies joining are the leaders in the Home Care industry. Looking forward meeting new people and getting inspiration for innovation development from the presentations.
