Exclusive Interview with Ian Bell from Euromonitor International

Ian Bell manages the research programme for the global home care industry at Euromonitor International, which he joined in February 2001. Ian has direct responsibility over the content and quality of Euromonitor’s Home Care research, which provides strategic analysis of the global market as well as in-depth coverage of 80 countries worldwide.

Q. Where do you think we will see the biggest change in the cleaning products industry within the next few years?

Likely laundry care, with the advent of system based cleaning formats, similar to what exists in the  I&I space. Likely consumer will reflect institutional systems more closely in the coming years across a number of key categories.

Q. What do you think the biggest challenge facing the industry is, at the moment?

Balancing consumer expectations in terms of product performance, the advent of innovative new formats set against broader industry initiatives towards improved sustainability. The challenge is all the greater as formulations will have to cope with ever tightening legislation relating to ingredients which will see a ban on phosphate usage in auto dish come into effect in 2017 for example. Add to this rapid change in specifications and regulations associated with domestic appliances in Europe then the challenge is all that greater, to develop effective products given this background, a background which while challenging also comes with its own opportunities, a spur for future innovation and the basis for future success.
